Paola Severino is the Vice President of LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome with a special appointment for International Relations. She was Rector of the same university from 2016 to 2018, and Deputy Rector prior to 2016. From May 1st, 2003 to May 29, 2006 she was Dean of the Department of Law of the LUISS Guido Carli University. She has been a tenured full Professor of Criminal Law at LUISS University since 1998 in the MA program in Law. She is also President of the Scientific Council of the LUISS School of Law and a member of the Strategic Group of the LUISS School of European Political Economy. She's also the Director of the Master's Programmes in Business Criminal Law, Compliance and Prevention of Corruption in the Public and Private SectorsÓ, and ÒCybersecurity: Public policies, Regulations, and Management.

Since January 2018 she has been Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office on Combating Corruption, and she has also been recently appointed as a member of the Italian-French working group in charge of drafting the so called Quirinale Treaty. In June 2018 she received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of Glasgow. She served as Italy's Minister of Justice in the Cabinet led by Mario Monti. She has been a criminal defense lawyer on the Roll of solicitors of Rome since 1975, and acts as a consultant in the field of commercial criminal law.
